Blumenthal Statement on the Withdrawal of David Chipman's ATF Director Nomination

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement in response to the withdrawal of the nomination of David Chipman to be Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF):

“As an effective career law enforcer, David Chipman is exactly the leader ATF needs—and the reason the gun lobby opposed him. Despite this deep disappointment, President Biden should move swiftly to select another leader, similarly dedicated and determined to prevent gun violence.”

“ATF has lacked a Senate-confirmed Director for way too long, as a result of gun lobby obstruction. David Chipman’s front-line experience and expertise are still what is urgently needed in a nominee to lead this critical enforcement agency fighting the vicious scourge of gun violence.”
