Blumenthal Statement on FDA Authorization of the First COVID-19 Vaccine

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted emergency use authorization to Pfizer and partner BioNTech for its COVID-19 vaccine:

“This seismic scientific feat will save countless lives. I am extraordinarily proud of Pfizer’s scientists and entire workforce in Connecticut who helped achieve what seemed impossible: developing a safe, effective COVID-19 vaccine in less than a year. Vaccines are critical, but it’s vaccinations that truly save lives. The historic challenge now is to scale up manufacturing, strengthen supply chains, spur trust and confidence, as well as continue developing additional versions of vaccine - all of which demands massive federal investment. Americans need and deserve nothing less to conquer the pandemic and revive our economy.”
