Senator Blumenthal Blasts Cuts To Vital Projects In Republican Spending Bill

(Washington, DC) – Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement in response to the House of Representatives' passage of the Republican continuing resolution:

“The spending bill passed by the House would be devastating to Connecticut and to the crucial programs that will enable our economy to grow and spur job creation in our state.  While it is important to address our country’s fiscal responsibilities and to push government to live within its means like families all over Connecticut, we cannot balance our budget at the expense of our future. In particular, slashing money that has already been promised to road projects in cities like Bridgeport and New Haven is simply unacceptable as these road projects have already broken ground. While this continuing resolution passed by the House preserves the tax loopholes for big oil companies, it would slash important safety net programs for those who need it most, at a time when more Americans are suffering because of the state of our economy. These kinds of priorities are not those of Connecticut, and I will fight these cuts in the Senate.”
