Following latest meeting between President Trump and President Zelenskyy, Blumenthal urges passage of his bipartisan sanctions bill
[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) issued the below statement today following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s meeting with President Trump at the White House, during which Trump failed to commit to providing Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles:
“Trump is playing into Putin’s hands—slow-walking the aid Ukraine needs to defend itself against Russia’s murderous assault. Immediately providing Ukraine with necessary military aid—including Tomahawk cruise missiles—coupled with passing the Graham-Blumenthal Sanctions Bill will cripple Russia’s war machine and put us on the path to peace.”
Blumenthal’s bipartisan legislation with U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) would impose primary and secondary sanctions against Russia and actors supporting Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. The Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025 has overwhelming bipartisan support with 85 cosponsors in the U.S. Senate.
