Blumenthal Statement on Vote Against Senate Transportation Bill

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement on his vote against the transportation bill, H.R. 22:

While we worked to improve this bill with significant impact, it still remains far short – indeed a mere shadow of what it should be – in protecting the safety of car drivers and passengers, rail riders, truckers, workers, and many others who depend on our nation’s transportation system. The investment in our roads and rails is seriously insufficient – leaving crumbling infrastructure in desperate need of repairs across the country. Among many flaws, this legislation makes less safe the roads and rails it purports to improve by allowing fatigued teenagers behind the wheels of large rigs on our highways – with no rules to require rest. I am determined to continue fighting for a bill that is truly effective and worthy of the people of Connecticut, whose jobs and economic wellbeing are so clearly at stake.”
