Blumenthal Statement on VA Decision to Restore Shuttle Service from West Haven Train Station

(Hartford, CT) – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement today regarding VA Connecticut Healthcare’s decision to restore shuttle service between the West Haven Train Station and its West Haven campus:

I am pleased that VA has responded rationally and reasonably—restoring shuttle service immediately for veterans and VA staff. This issue need never have arisen and should never have caused the worry and criticism that many veterans and staff rightly felt. The shuttle is a vital resource in assuring access to a facility with inadequate parking. I will continue to work with VA leadership to improve the parking situation and transportation options so that veterans and staff face as few obstacles as possible to first rate medical care. Transportation is only one facet of making sure that our veterans receive world class health care—one of my top priorities as Senator and Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs,” Blumenthal said.
