Blumenthal Statement on the Nomination of Gina Raimondo to be Secretary of Commerce

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), a member of the Senate Commerce, Science & Transportation Committee, released the following statement after President-elect Joe Biden announced that he would nominate Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo to be Secretary of Commerce:

“Connecticut and other coastal states need a bold agenda to protect our oceans and shorelines for the communities that rely on them. As governor of a coastal state, Gina Raimondo knows firsthand the importance of preserving healthy fisheries and oceans, and the need for a champion for our maritime and fishing economies at the Commerce Department. The extensive priorities overseen by the Department of Commerce—from the environment and trade to industry and technology—demand a steady and experienced leader. I look forward to speaking with Governor Raimondo about her vision for the Department of Commerce and working with Congress.”
