Blumenthal Statement On Senate Rejection Of SNAP Funding

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement on the Senate’s rejection 70-26 of Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s (D-N.Y.) amendment maintaining Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Funding:

“Today’s defeat of SNAP funding in the Senate is a disgrace. I opposed cuts in the Food Stamp program which deny struggling families and young children access to vital food assistance. We should keep faith with families, including almost 400,000 in Connecticut, by maintaining current levels of SNAP funding, indeed expanding food benefits if needed.”
