BLUMENTHAL STATEMENT ON SCOTUS RULING ALLOWING TRUMP ADMINISTRATION TO FIRE DEMOCRATIC COMMISSIONERS OF INDEPENDENT CONSUMER SAFETY WATCHDOG

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement today after the Supreme Court allowed the Trump Administration to remove Democratic members of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the only government entity tasked with developing and enforcing product safety standards, facilitating recalls of unsafe products, and educating consumers and businesses about product hazards and best practices:

“The Supreme Court just gave the Trump Administration a green light to dismantle the bipartisan, independent Consumer Product Safety Commission. For decades, this agency worked to put consumer safety above corporate profits and protect children and families. Today’s appalling Supreme Court decision empowering President Trump to decimate this agency will leave Americans vulnerable in their own homes—allowing defective, dangerous products to make their way to store shelves without effective safeguards.”
