Blumenthal Statement on Preliminary Sanctuary Cities Ruling

[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement after a federal judge blocked the Trump Administration’s proposed rule requiring sanctuary states and cities to cooperate with immigration enforcement agencies in order to access federal funding. The preliminary injunction applies nationwide.

“This injunction will stop this administration’s cruel and callous attempts to sacrifice our safety in pursuance of mass deportation. Byrne-JAG funds are the lifeblood of law enforcement agencies in Connecticut and across the country who depend on federal grants to keep our communities safe,” Blumenthal said. “Attorney General Jeff Sessions threatened to hold states and cities hostage if they refused to cave to this administration’s hostile, extreme immigration agenda. I am confident that federal courts will continue to determine that these new rules should not stand.”
