Blumenthal, Murphy Statement on Malloy Executive Order Banning Gun Permits for Individuals on ‘No Fly’ List in Connecticut

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement today after Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced an executive order to ban gun permits for individuals on the Terrorist Watch List:

We applaud Governor Malloy for taking clear, commonsense action to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals and keep Connecticut communities safe. His action underscores that Congress has failed to act – completely abdicating responsibility as a public health crisis sweeps the nation, killing 30,000 Americans each year. As we near the third anniversary of the horrific tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary, we are reminded that the only way to truly honor those schoolchildren, educators, and every victim of gun violence is through action. Without action, we are complicit in the failure to protect Americans from the scourge of gun violence. We will continue to fight for Congress to close the terror gap and keep lethal weapons out of the hands of dangerous people. If you are too dangerous to fly, you are too dangerous to buy a gun.
