Blumenthal, Murphy & Larson Applaud Raytheon Technologies Contract

Over $500 million for F-135 propulsion system spare parts and engines

(HARTFORD, CT) – U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Congressman John Larson (CT-1) today applauded the announcement that Raytheon Technologies has been awarded a $579 million contract by the Department of Defense for the F-135 propulsion system spare parts, spare engines, and modules. This work will be done by Connecticut-based Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of Raytheon.

“Making parts and components to keep fighters flying is often as important as manufacturing new planes— as this huge contract highlights. It helps assure that F35 jets will provide continued air superiority, so American troops will never have a fair fight. It recognizes the amazing skilled and dedicated workforce at Pratt & Whitney— and at the many great manufacturers in the supply chain. On the Armed Services Committee, I’ll fight for more vital resources to sustain our national security second to none,” said Blumenthal.

“This announcement is good news for Connecticut’s economy and the hardworking men and women at Pratt and Whitney who help keep our country safe. The contract will make continued investments in our national defense, while also creating jobs in our state. I’m proud to help drive these funding priorities as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee,” said Murphy.

“Due to Yankee ingenuity and our state’s advanced manufacturing ecosystem, Pratt & Whitney has been a leader in the aerospace industry for decades. This contract for the F135 engine is proof that East Hartford and Connecticut continues to deliver to protect our nation. In 2011, I worked to designate Pratt & Whitney as the sole supplier of the F135 engine, securing Connecticut manufacturing jobs for duration of the 60-year life cycle of the program. This contract is another step forward for supporting jobs in the region,” said Larson.
