Blumenthal & Booker Call on NCAA to Revoke "Legally Dubious" and "Morally Repugnant" COVID-19 Liability Waivers for College Athletes

[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) wrote National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) President Mark Emmert today to call for a prohibition on liability waivers member schools are coercing college athletes to sign, exempting institutions from being held accountable for the spread of COVID-19.

“Many students depend on their athletic scholarships to attend college,” the Senators wrote. “Threatening to revoke athletes’ scholarships if they do not sign away their rights forces these students into making an impossible decision: risk contracting COVID-19 or give up on their college education. That is completely unacceptable.”
