Blumenthal Statement on Trump Administration Effort to Squash Sharpiegate Inspector General Report

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Transportation, and Science, release the following statement in a response to a memo posted on the website of the Commerce Department Inspector General, outlining efforts by the Trump Administration to halt the release of a forthcoming report on “Sharpiegate:”

“This craven cover-up is shocking – but sadly unsurprising. The Administration is muzzling an independent inspector general so they can hide President Trump’s pathetic attempts to justify lying to the American people about an extreme weather event. The Commerce Department must provide whatever specific, justifiable redactions it has in the next week, or the Inspector General should release the full report without them.”
